A Season of Profound Love

You know one of my favorite movie quotes of all time is from Santa Claus is Coming To Town.  When Kris Kringle becomes overwhelmed by delivering toys to children every night of the year, he limits his travels to one night a year.  He chooses "the holiest night of the year - the night of profound love - Christmas Eve."  I love that line....

It's early on Christmas morning and the girls are still sleeping.  I woke up early to see if Santa paid our house a visit.  He did!

Yesterday, the girls and I baked and cooked and crafted and cleaned house, or at least tried to.  Sometimes, I feel like that's a losing battle.  Particularly, when I do no-so-bright things like leave Abigail in the kitchen with an open bottle of glitter.  Let's just say I'll be sweeping that up for a month.

The girls opened their presents from their aunts and uncles in Mobile.  They were over the moon with the toys and clothes and stuffed animals and purses.  They're curled up in bed right now with their stuffed animals from Uncle Tim and we had to wrestle their purses from Aunt Dianne away from them before they went to sleep.  Here they are with their barbie cars from Aunt Sarah.    When Gracie opened hers, she squealed and said, "This is  just what I wanted from my Aunts!  Exactly what I wanted!"  Apparently she not only has a specific wish list for Santa and us, she has one for her extended family as well

My grandparents came over for dinner and we had our traditional Christmas Eve fare:  corned beef, stuffed mushrooms, jezebel sauce with cream cheese, and a wealth of cookies!    The girls finally settled down for sleep about 9:30.  Gracie kept tossing and turning and saying, "What's that noise?  What's that noise?  Is it Santa?"

Today, we'll spend time playing and more playing before we head down to have Christmas dinner with my grandparents.  Usually, I find Christmas morning somewhat anti-climatic after the hustle and bustle and craziness of the days and weeks leading up to it.  This morning, though, in the still before all the activity starts, I just feel peaceful.  Maybe that peacefulness was the gift that Santa left here for me when he dropped off all of this for two very lucky little girls:

I hope your day is filled with family and love, joy and blessings!  Merry, Merry Christmas!
