Not So Scared
Here's a layout I did last March.

Abigail went through a full week with high temps that just wouldn't go away and no other symptoms. We never did find out what caused them - she went through a battery of tests and some of her bloodwork was a little abnormal, but nothing that was conclusive. I'll admit, until her fever broke I was a little bit scared (okay, a whole lot scared). She had the same thing happen last September, but then we kind of wrote it off as a side effect of one of her immunizations. In March, I didn't have that to use for an excuse, so I was worried.
Well, she started running a fever again on Wednesday night so I went ahead and took her in to the doctor this morning since the girls and I are supposed to head to my sister's house this weekend for a whole week (I'm not sure who's more excited - me, Gracie or Abigail
). I was hoping that he'd find an ear infection or possibly even strep throat. I realize that sounds a little odd, but if he'd found something definitive, we could go ahead and start her on some medicine and she'd be just fine for the trip. Well, no luck. To quote the doctor, her ears are perfect and her throat looks beautiful (only a pediatrician could find a throat beautiful). So, I explained that we were leaving in the morning for eight days. Here's why I love my pediatrician. Instead of just writing me off as an overly anxious mommy, he said, "Okay, let's come up with a plan. Will you be staying with family on your trip?" I nodded. "Does that family have children?" I just grinned. "So, of course they have a pediatrician. Here's what we're going to do. If she's still running fever on Monday morning, take her in to see you nieces' pediatrician." Then, he smiled a little. "Now, it's summertime, so pediatricians generally have a slacker schedule than during the winter. So, have your sister call her doctor and tell them she has a houseguest that has had fever for four days and that the hometown pediatrician recommends she be seen." (Sister, will you do this for us on Monday if Mae still has a fever?
I know, dumb question
). And he made copies of her latest blood tests for me to take with me so I'll have them just in case. So, we have a plan - which makes me feel a whole lot better and a lot less scared than I normally would be. Of course, it helps that Abigail is running around here like a chicken without its head, not acting at all like her fever is over 102!
So, I better get to packing! Have a great day!

Yep. Dumb question! My poor baby. And actually, I am the one who is most excited!
